The respective decision was made in view of the russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, as well as restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Previously, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine sent the letter dated 14.04.2023 No. 2895/46/14-23 to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding the extension of the validity of qualification and other documents of seafarers until 31 of December, 2023.
The extension of the validity of qualification and other documents of seafarers refers to Ukrainian seafarers who are currently on board, particularly those whose documents expired on or after 1 March 2020 or will expire in the foreseeable future and those seafarers who are ashore.
The Shipping Administration, supported by the team of the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure the continuous process of seafarers’ certification. Those seafarers who are currently in Ukraine may be certified under the only legal certification procedure defined by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 30.12.2022 No. 1499.
