The Head of the Shipping Administration Yevhenii Ihnatenko held a meeting with representatives of organizations handling seafarers' problems, namely the “Ukrainian Seafarers Union”, “Together Against Corruption” and the Marine Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine.
The parties discussed the issues which concern the representatives of the maritime community. Most of the questions related to the dissolution of the Inspectorate for training and certification of seafarers and to the certification procedure. Yevhenii Ihnatenko emphasized that the period of change has already begun and in the near future a transparent procedure for the formation and functioning of the State Qualification Commission for Seafarers will be brought into effect. In view of this, the possibility of administrative appeals against its decisions will also be accessible, as well as the resolution of other issues that are not currently settled.
In addition, the representatives of the organizations made proposals regarding the control over the unified State Register of seafarers' documents, improvement of the inspection of the educational and training institutions and digitalization of the services provided by the Shipping Administration.
"I’m convinced that an open dialogue with representatives of the industry will contribute to the quality work of the Shipping Administration and will benefit the entire maritime community. The talk is cheap: I hope for active support of the organizations in the process of positive changes!" Yevhenii Ihnatenko concluded.
