The State Service for Maritime, Inland Waterway Transport and Shipping of Ukraine strongly condemns the use of a map with illegitimate borders of the russian federation in the presentation “Safety Regulation Aspects of Vessels with Nuclear Reactors and Floating Power Units”, delivered by representative of the state atomic energy corporation rosatom on the sidelines of the 12th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction.
As reaffirmed repeatedly by the United Nations General Assembly and in IMO resolutions A.1183(33) and MSC.519(106), the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, city of Sevastopol, Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions, together with internal waters and territorial sea, form an integral part of Ukrainian sovereign territory.
Any attempts of rosatom to alter their internationally recognised status during the russian aggression against Ukraine, either by exhibiting fraudulent maps, seizing the IR-100 research reactor in Sevastopol or conducting unauthorized and extremely perilous operations at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, are null and void.
The Shipping Administration is confident that technical discussions on the use of alternative fuels in merchant shipping must not take place at the expense of peace, global nuclear security and basic principles of international law.
